Naturalien en el Espacio
2017
Sound Installation
cooper wire, piezos, sound in loop
Size, about 100cm x 80cm x 240cm
In this work Juliana Herrero deciphers visual information from the outside world and transforms it into an auditory experience and back again. This intimate and subtle work takes its origin in acoustic dissections of the soundscapes of her hometown and the surroundings. The work is process-oriented. As many of her filigree works belonging to the family of “Naturalien” (conceived as macro and micro section of sound) this piece is made of copper wire, piezos and custom components. The material is aesthetic embodiment and itself the medium of the sound. It has a genesis in little Naturalien Sound Sculptures -in which sounds of the patios of the houses and fields were dissected and mixed into new compositions of the ethereal ecosystems, sound which have been recorded by herself or requested through long distances. She was wondering weather they can construct micro narratives of the affected memory or they want to tell us something about changes on bio-diversity.
